Our Story
Waldo and Jacqui Solano, founders of Salsa Knoxville Dance Company, have passionately dedicated their lives to bringing the vibrant rhythms and joyful spirit of Latin dance to Knoxville, Tennessee. Since 2008, this dynamic duo has transformed countless lives through salsa and bachata, creating a welcoming community centered around dance, friendship, and cultural celebration.
Known for their contagious enthusiasm and expert teaching methods, Waldo and Jacqui have hosted weekly dance classes, spectacular social events, and beloved community gatherings. Their vision goes beyond just dance steps—they aim to build lasting connections and foster a sense of belonging among dancers of all backgrounds and skill levels.
Today, Waldo and Jacqui dream of creating Knoxville's first dedicated Salsa and Bachata dance studio. Their goal is to provide a permanent home where their thriving community can expand, enjoy more classes, and access high-quality online dance resources. MEET WALDO Y JACQUI SOLANO
Waldo and Jacqui Solano founded Salsa Knoxville Latin Dance School here in Knoxville Tennessee to bring the joy of Salsa, Bachata, Cumbia and Merengue dance to Knoxville, Tennessee. With 35 years of combined experience, their mission is to create a welcoming community where everyone can master salsa, bachata, cumbia and merengue.

We offer large group classes in Salsa, Bachata, and Cumbia in all levels: beginner, intermediate, advanced levels.
2. What other types of instruction do you offer?
We offer private lessons, performance classes, pro couples teams, ladies styling teams, men's styling teams, instructor training, online live instruction and online courses.
3. How can I start learning Salsa OR Bachata if I am an absolute beginner?
The best way to start learning SALSA and BACHATA is to join a 4 WEEK SALSA BACHATA BOOTCAMP TODAY.
4. Do Waldo y Jacqui personally teach the classes?
Yes, Waldo y Jacqui personally teach you in your classes. With over 40 years of experience, this duo loves to teach and give you inspiration on your dancing journey!
5. How does SalsaKnox accommodate different skill levels in classes?
We create different leveled classes to accommodate the different skills of all our students: Salsa and Bachata Bootcamps For Absolute Beginners, Salsa and Bachata Intermediate, Salsa and Bachata Advanced, and Cumbia all levels. We also have Men's Teams, Ladies Teams, and Partner-work Teams for people interested in performing and going to the next level. Finally, we have private lessons for students looking to get more private attention and 1:1 support.
6. What should I wear or bring to a salsa class?
Wear comfortable clothing, and shoes without rubber on the bottoms that are fitted to the foot well. We do not recommend tennis shoes or shoes that flip-flop around. We do recommend these comfortable Fuego Dance Sneakers. CLICK HERE to save 10% on your next order.
7. Do I need a partner?
No. Everyone rotates in our classes. Rotating partners is a proven way to learn faster with many different types of people.
8. How does salsa and bachata dancing contribute to personal growth and community building?
The owners of SalsaKnox Dance Company, Waldo y Jacqui Solano are always looking for ways to grow themselves in self-development and all areas of their lives, and we love to take that knowledge to inspire our students to do the same. We have witnessed first-hand how salsa and bachata dancing builds confidence and social connections, allowing our students to grow inside and outside of the dance floor.
9. What safety measures and policies are in place at SalsaKnox?
To ensure the safety of our students, we always emphasize proper lead and follow techniques, connections, etc. We promote proper and discuss proper dance etiquette to provide a healthy and safe experience for every student. We also provide many modifications during instruction for people who have issues with feet, knees, hips, or other areas of the body.

Our classes are for anyone wanting to learn or improve how to dance Salsa, Bachata, or Cumbia, join a positive community, meet others, and learn how to have fun again!
